*Warning – there are spoilers for Beard Necessities and the entire Winston Brothers series as a whole!*
Beard Necessities (Penny Reid) is the sixth and final book in the Winston Brothers Series and continues the complicated love story between Billy Winston and Scarlett St. Claire. After nearly twenty years apart, Billy and Scarlett find themselves being constantly thrown together, thanks to the hijacks of the Winston family. Halfway across the world in Tuscany, the two are forced to work out their differences, whether they like it or not. Both are guarded and both are keeping secrets from one another. Things have never been easy for Billy and Scarlett but is it finally too late for them to piece their love back together? Or will the “hills of Tuscany, catacombs of Rome, and the waterways of Venice” bring them back together once and for all?
I’m back with an extra blog this week because I just couldn’t contain myself any longer. Unfortunately, I’ve finished Beard Necessities, which means the Winston Brothers series is over for me. This series without a doubt has become my absolute favorite of all time and I am so grateful to have discovered it.
The love story of Scarlett and Billy has been a central point throughout the series, weaving amongst the other brothers’ stories for years. It was only fitting that the family became an integral part in the story of them getting back together. This last book felt like such a beautiful last hurrah for not just Scarlett and Billy, but for the entire family. One of the major aspects of this series that I loved is the group dynamic and it was great to have so many scenes in this book with the whole family together, playing off of each other’s personalities. And it was lovely to get a last scene where we can see each sibling having their happily ever after moments with their partners and children. This book was perfect as the last installment for the series.
I mentioned in my previous blog that I truly never thought anything would top Truth or Beard for me, but wow, was I wrong! Beard With Me and Beard Necessities have quickly become my top picks from the series (and possibly of all time). Billy and Scarlett’s relationship touched me in a way I never imagined. I am a sucker for angst and longing and Billy and Scarlett are nothing but angst and longing. It was such a deeply thought out and well-written story, with a satisfying ending and I am completely in awe of Penny Reid’s talent. I’ll say it again, if you have not read anything by her, please do. You will be so grateful to have experienced a story told by her.
The only issue I had with this book is that I wish we saw more of Roscoe! He was absent for most of the early parts of the series and it was a shame that he missed out on the last hurrah in Italy with his family. He was such an under utilized character in my opinion.
And that’s it! Suddenly (and sadly), I am done with my favorite series. I’m feeling a little bit of a sad slump, knowing the Winston world is done forever, but that’s what re-reads are for! Leave me a comment below if you’ve read this series and which book was your favorite!
CURRENTLY READING: To All The Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han – with the new movie about to drop next week, it only seemed appropriate to take a trip down memory lane to revisit these books!
